Head of the Investigation Committee for the Mari tragedy, Polys Polyviou handed the findings to the President of the Republic, Demetris Christofias today at 8.00 am.
“Hard work, be well, everything will be as decided”, the President said when receiving he findings.
After the meeting, Mr. Polyviou told the journalists that he delivered the findings to the President and explained to him the main conclusions. “I was accepted with great courtesy, as always, we had a very friendly discussion and that was it. The President and the Council of Ministers will examine the findings. Again, we were very well received by the President, we had a friendly discussion and he was kind as always. I did my job and the findings will be examined by the President”, he said.
On the question whether he feels reassured with his conscience Mr. Polyviou said that he worked all summer. I was honoured by the assignment of this project. This was the first time that the President appointed an Investigation Committee to investigate him and his government. As you may recall, the President was subject to investigation in an open session. I did everything I could and I prepared a complete report. Of course, it will be judged. But I am calm, yes”, he said.
Then, Mr. Polyviou went to the House of Representatives to submit his findings to the House President, Yiannakis Omirou.
Mr. Omirou expressed his estimate that the findings will be used as a tool to attribute political responsibilities where necessary.
The House President also said that the penal investigation will be completed soon.
Finally, Mr. Omirou congratulated Mr. Polyviou for being in line with the timetable.

Next, he visited the Legal Service and handed his report to the Attorney General, Petros Clerides.
Mr. Polyviou said that the findings are comprehensive and deals with all aspects of the tragedy of July 11.
Similarly, Mr. Clerides noted that he will examine the report, as well as that of the Police, so as to draw his own conclusions.
Mr. Clerides thanked Mr. Polyviou and recognized that a very difficult task has been carried out in the shortest possible time.
On the other hand, Mr. Polyviou thanked the Attorney General for his confidence in him.
“This task would not have happened without my colleagues, who helped me significantly for the completion of this project”, he added.
Mr. Polyviou also said that the Attorney General was extremely helpful, was always near them and they exchanged views.
Asked how many units are there in the findings, he said that it is dividend in many units. “We deal with all aspects of the issue, the facts, the responsibilities, the state reaction, EAC, the state system etc”, he noted,
“I have tried to prepare a comprehensive report for various aspects of the issue”, he added.
On the question about the responsibilities, he said that the main chapter of the report concerns the responsibilities but avoided giving further details in view of the press conference today at 12.00.
On the question what we should expect from the Attorney General, Mr. Clerides said that he will examine the findings and the minutes of the procedure together with the Police report and the testimonies so as to draw his own conclusions.
Responding to the question when would be decided which persons will be prosecuted, the Attorney said that he cannot commit to timetables.
“As you may see, the findings is of 643 pages, the minutes are probably too many and the Police material is bulky as well”, he concluded.
The Committee announced on Friday that today at 12.00 pm, Mr. Polyviou would give a press conference today at the ground floor of the Finance Ministry, within the framework of the release of the findings.
