The significant projects for the EU Rotating Presidency of Cyprus will be completed in late 2011 early 2012, Manager of the Road Works Department, Alecos Michaelides told the CNA, referring to the widening of the Nicosia – Limassol motorway to 6 lanes from Alampra to Nicosia and the Presidency buildings.
Mr. Michaelides said that the Presidency buildings (Filoxenia and Conference Center) must be refurbished by the end of January 2012, according to the contract.
“There is a small delay with the provisions of the contact but the contractor declared that it will be covered. If the contractor wants to cover the delay, he may do so. This means that the Presidency buildings will be ready in late January or mid February the latest”, he said.
“The two contracts – the one for the widening of the motorway and the other for the construction of the junction at new GSP – will be ready before the compatible obligations of the contractors”, he noted.
Responding to the question about the significant projects that have been finalized, Mr. Michaelides referred to Archangelou Avenue.
Also, he talked about the by-pass of Kalo Chorio at the Limassol – Agros road of €6 - €7 million.
“The project is of extremely important since it will help the mountainous communities at the area of Agros in their connection with Limassol.
“Those who visited the mountainous regions of Limassol this weekend realized the importance of the project”, Mr. Michaelides concluded.
