The Cyprus accession in the EMU in 2007 is still our aim, Finance Minister, Makis Keravnos told CyBC on Wednesday. “The present and the former governments have submitted 3 economic programs that have not been adopted”, the Minister said.
Mr. Keravnos noted that the most serious problem of Cyprus at the current stage is its reliability. ‘If it is deemed necessary to transfer the accession date, this decision will be taken. At the current stage, the government must deal with its fiscal problems”.
As regards to the government’s intention to adopt a dividend policy in the semi-governmental organizations CYTA and EAC, the Minister said that the state has invested millions of pounds and has, therefore, the right of an economic benefit. “With the liberalization of the telecommunication and the power supply markets, the two organizations are no longer non profit.
