EMGF Advisory Committee discusses gas prospects in the Mediterranean

The short and medium term prospects of gas in the Mediterranean region were discussed at the 5th Meeting of the Regulatory Authority Advisory Committee (RAAC), held on Wednesday, February 7, with the participation of Heads and representatives of National Regulatory Authorities of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) Member Countries.

According to a Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) statement, EMGF Secretary General, Osama Mobarez, EMGF Board Chairman, Eng. Alaa Hagar and RAAC Regulatory Authorities Advisory Committee Vice Chairman, Dr. Andreas Poullikkas, stressed the importance of maintaining collective efforts to address the complexity of the gas sector to ensure a resilient and prosperous future in the Mediterranean region.

During the meeting, the EMGF member countries' aspirations were discussed, focusing on the short term prospects as well as the medium term gas prospects in the Mediterranean region. According to CERA, constructive discussions were held, opinions, knowledge and analysis were exchanged on the current and expected short-term gas demand in the Mediterranean.

"The exchange of views on the prospects (of gas in the region) during the discussion was an integral part of the formulation of the medium-term recommendations that will contribute to the development of a strong and thriving interconnected regional gas market and trading hub", CERA notes in its statement.
