Where once the abandoned Hellenikon International Airport stood on the coast of the Greek capital, the first buildings are going up in the 8-billion euro ($8.3 billion) development of luxury housing, malls, hotels, a casino, and yacht marina.
Ellinikon, as it’s now being called, will transform the area. The development will span 600 acres and include an urban park, the original idea for more greenery changed to mixed commercial use focused on luxury units and stores due to the country’s economic crisis at the time.
