The electricity bills will be higher by 10% in the next two months, according to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus.

According to EAC General Manager, Stelios Stylianou, the increase in the price of crude due to the political developments in the Arab countries has affected the electricity prices, which will be readjusted in the next few months with an increase of 10%.

“A similar increase was imposed in 2008, when it recorded an increase of 10%”, he added.

On the other hand, EAC spokesman, Costas Gavrielides, in an effort to appease the consumers’ protests, explained that in Cyprus there is a time lag of three months either in the increase or the decrease in the electricity prices due to the fuel stock.

Mr. Stylianou noted that electricity prices will continue to increase if the price of crude continues to follow an upward trend due to the unrest in the Arab countries.

The statements were made within the framework of a press conference, which announced the 7th Energy Saving Fair “SAVERGY”.
