Ecologists: ‘Yes’ to postponement of big projects

The Ecologists announced on Wednesday that the government’s decision to postpone a number of big projects such as the Cultural Mansion and the Parliament is a step towards the right direction.

In their announcement, they stressed that they always believed that crisis will not be confronted with big projects but with the proper ones. “Besides, we always insisted that we should avoid luxuries and mansions that do not serve any particular purpose. The needs for buildings can be satisfied via new and old buildings characterized by simplicity, usefulness and bio-climatic and energy planning”, it said.

They also expressed their concerns on the government’s persistence to execute big projects of dubious usefulness such as the Poli Chrysohous – Paphos highway and the widening of the Nicosia-Alampra highway. “Those projects can wait, given the priority that some other useful projects have”, the announcement noted.

According to the Ecologists, it is quite alarming the fact that useful and urgent projects such as the Oncology Ward in Limassol, the improvement of the State Chemical Laboratory, the Oncology Ward in Nicosia etc remain frozen.

“Those projects must be executed the soonest possible”, the Ecologists stressed.

“It is unacceptable to stop projects like these and to finance luxury projects such as Eleftheria Square”, the announcement concluded.
