Emission charges on the electricity bills of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus are estimated at 1% in 2013, while same charge is estimated at 0.7% for 2012.
In his statements to CNA, Tasos Gegoriou who acts as Spokesman of EAC, said that this incorporation already exists and was decided in March 2010.
“It is not a decision of EAC but a decision that was taken due to an EU legislation by the government and independent organizations.
“Its incorporation is determined by the stamp of CERA”, he added.
In response to a clarifying question about reports in the Cypriot press in relation to the rate of increase in the price of electricity, he said that the incorporation was estimated to be about an average of 0.7% in 2012.
“In 2013, our budget is estimated at around 1%. The real annual growth will be of around 0.3%”, he added.
Asked whether the circumstances in Cyprus after the explosion at Mari affected the amount of the charge, Mr. Gregoriou said that since demand was lower after the explosion, the charge is definitely less.
He also said that Cyprus together with Estonia have secured an exception until 2020 for free distribution of allowances of emissions.
It is noted that the relevant directive entitles states to distribute free allowances for CO2 emissions.
