EAC ceases supply of electricity to T/C

It’s been one week now that the T/C have ceased taking electricity from the free areas since they have solved the electricity problems, EAC Deputy Chairman, Haris Haralambous told StockWatch on Monday. “The occupied areas will submit the sum of £50 thousand for our aid in May. In case they need our help again, they will contact us. It is impossible, however, to supply the T/C areas with electricity during summer when the demand is high. But there is no risk for a black-out in 2006 or 2007. The problem will be in 2008, since we will have an energy deficit of 80 megavat and we will have to install reserve machines by then”, he said.

As for the 11 points that the T/C intercepted electricity, Mr. Haralambous said that EAC has reached an agreement with the T/C “Authority” for the supply of electricity by four areas. “If we reach an agreement, the occupied north will receive electricity from Pergamos, Pyla, Aheritou and another region, submitting the sum of £100 thousand per annum”, Mr. Haralambous said.

Competition for the 4th unit in Vasiliko

Mr. Haralambous finally said that EAC decided to announce a competition for the 4th unit in Vasiliko. “This unit will operate with diesel and natural gas. Its operation will eliminate the risks for a black-out in the free areas”, he concluded.
