Greece’s economy is roaring back from a 2010-18 fiscal and austerity crisis – expected to grow another 2.5 percent in 2024 and hordes of tourists pouring in – but many Greeks aren’t reaping the benefits.
Data from the European Union’s statistics agency Eurostat showed that 25 percent of Greeks – compared to 20 percent in the bloc – were at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2023, when tourist spending passed 21 billion euros ($22.69 billion).
