The government receives £1 million per day from the consumer tax on fuel, in a period when lower classes feel the pressures from the negative economic condition of the island, DISY Vice Chairman, Lefteris Christoforou stated on Friday.

Mr. Christoforou urged the government to take measures for the support of the social groups that are largely affected by the price hikes in fuel.

“Although the government receives £1 million per day from the tax on fuel, it has not taken the necessary offset measures to support the weaker social groups”.

The Vice Chairman emphasized that the government must reduce the tax on heating oil to 1 cent from 14.2 cents and noted that the government must take other measures for the social and professional groups.
