Right-wing Democratic Rally party DISY requested by the government on Wednesday either to grant an annual benefit to all households that use central heating, or proceed to a price cut of heating oil by 10 cents/litre and in future by 13 cents/litre. DISY has also urged the Electricity Authority of Cyprus to be consistent in its previous commitments to reduce the cost to customers who use heaters.
Speaking at a press conference, Chairman of the House Commerce Committee and DISY Vice-Chairman, Lefteris Christoforou has expressed his disagreement on former government’s decision to grant a heating subsidy, as “this was actually not in favour of the real “beneficiaries”.
Mr. Christoforou said that the EU gives the opportunity to reduce petrol by 10 cents/litre and urged the government to grant an annual benefit to the households that cannot not afford to have central heating.
Larnaca Refinery
As regards to the government’s decision to transform the Larnaca Refinery into fuel terminal, Mr. Christoforou said that DISY will be abreast of the developments, focusing on the public interest, the rights of the Refinery employees and the creation of the necessary conditions so that the country will have satisfactory fuel supplies until the accession.
