The Honorary Consul of The Netherlands in Cyprus, Mr Platon E. Lanitis, was decorated by Her Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, Mrs Brechje Schwachofer on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands. Mr Lanitis received the title of Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau. This distinction was given to him in appreciation for his services, as an Honorary Consul, since 1985, to the Netherlands’ Community in Cyprus and the development of Cyprus-Netherlands relations in various fields of the society.
As the Dutch Ambassador, Mrs Brechje Schwachofer, mentioned in her speech, Mr Lanitis, in his capacity as Honorary Consul, has become a pillar of support in Cyprus for her country and its Dutch citizens. She also added that the link between the Lanitis family and The Netherlands goes back even further. The late father of Mr Lanitis was for many years a decorated honorary consul, before him. Dutch citizens in Cyprus can rest assured of the excellent services the Honorary Consulate of the Netherlands offers.
In his reply to the Ambassador’s speech, Mr Lanitis said that he feels touched and very proud to have received the same distinction that both, his father and great uncle were honoured with, during their service as Honorary Consuls. He added that he shall continue to offer his services, his support and commitment to the Netherlands people in Cyprus, as well as the promotion of Cyprus-Dutch cooperation in every field possible.
