According to CYSTAT data released on Tuesday, tourist arrivals in December 2005 recorded a drop of 3.9% to 75,656 against 78,723 in December 2004.
On the other hand, tourist arrivals in January-December 2005 showed an increase of 5.2% to 2,470,063 against 2,349,012 in the corresponding period of 2004.
CTO: December is unpredictable
Speaking to StockWatch, CTO Chairman, Fotis Fotiou said that December does not determine the tourist arrivals for Cyprus. “In December 2004 we had an increase in tourist arrivals, while this December we had a drop”, he said.
Mr. Fotiou expressed his satisfaction for the increase in tourist arrivals by 5.2% in 2005, stressing that “CTO’s target for an increase of 5% has been achieved and we are optimistic for 2006. We want to see similar or further increase in 2006”, he concluded.
