Cyprus and Serbia signed on Thursday three Memoranda of Understanding in the fields of Science, Education and between the Diplomatic Academies of the two countries, in the framework of the official visit of President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides to Serbia.
According to a press release by the Presidency, the third Cyprus-Serbia Cooperation Council meeting was held on Thursday in Belgrade, presided by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides and President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić.
The meeting of the Cooperation Council was held at the Presidential Palace of Serbia and was attended by Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Defence Michalis Giorgallas, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Athena Michaelidou, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Cypriot Ambassador to Serbia Andreas Fotiou, Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Doros Venezis and other officials.
After the Council, Cyprus and Serbia signed Memoranda of Understanding, in the presence of the Presidents of the two countries.
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Diplomatic Academies of Cyprus and Serbia, which aims to promote and develop mutual cooperation between the two countries, for the better education and training of their diplomatic staff, as well as for the promotion of their research activities.
The Memorandum envisages the exchange of curricula, courses and seminars and new teaching methods. The cooperation also extends to the mutual exchange of professors, lecturers, experts and students in areas of mutual interest.
The Memorandum was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dačić.
Furthermore, the two countries also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of Science, Innovation and Advanced Technologies, which provides for the development of cooperation in the field of science, innovation and advanced technologies. The press release says that through the MoU, the parties will undertake continuous efforts to promote, facilitate and support cooperation between interested organizations and companies in their respective states, in the fields of agriculture, biotechnology, climate change and energy efficiency, smart construction, robotics and conservation of cultural heritage.
The Memorandum was signed by Cyprus' Minister of Foreign Affairs and Serbia's Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begovic.
The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Education between the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and the Ministry of Education of Serbia.
The MoU aims to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries, in areas such as higher education and cooperation between universities, technical and professional education and training, education for the environment and sustainable development, non-formal and informal learning, and teacher training.
The Memorandum was signed by the Minister of Education of the Republic of Cyprus and the Minister of Education of Serbia Slavica Đukić Dejanović.
