The working group on the part of the Republic of Cyprus is ready to begin consultations with the implementing body and the Greek Ministry of Energy to find a common basis and an agreement on all matters, Energy Minister, George Papanastasiou, said on Wednesday, regarding the Cyprus-Crete electricity interconnection.

Asked about media reports about “American concerns” regarding the submarine cable for the Cyprus-Crete electricity interconnection, Papanastasiou pointed out that “they are not American concerns” as it is not the specific country that has concerns about the electricity interconnection, but that the company that the Republic of Cyprus has appointed to conduct the assessment happens to be American.

He noted that the Republic of Cyprus, has appointed an assessment firm “which is a remarkable firm, and which has provided some observations, some suggestions and some amendments to some of the agreements proposed by the implementing body and which concern mainly future investors and shareholders,” the Minister said.

He noted that the Government has looked into it “and we are ready, with our working group, to begin consultations with the implementing body and with the Greek Ministry of Energy in order to find a common basis and an agreement on all matters.”
