Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letympioti has highlighted Cyprus – Jordan initiative to set up a regional centre to combat wildfires based in Cyprus, an initiative announced during Cyprus President’s Nikos Christodoulides visit to Amman and his meeting with the Jordanian King Abdullah II.
In statements in Amman, Letympiotis said the talks between Christodoulides and King Abdullah were particularly constructive, noting that the excellent relations between the two countries are broadened covering issues of mutual interest such as tourism, investments, defence cooperation, renewable energy as well as migration a field where both countries are facing grave challenges.
Letympiotis highlighted the joint initiative to set up a regional centre to combat wildfires based in Cyprus, noting that such a centre will enhance even more Cyprus’ regional role and will strengthen further the already close ties of Cyprus with Jordan and the other countries of the region.
He added this initiative was among the three memoranda of understanding signed in the context of the Cypriot President’s visit to Jordan.
The Spokesman also said that the next trilateral Summit meeting between Cyprus, Greece and Jordan will take place within 2023.
Concerning migration, the Spokesman said the Cypriot President and the Jordanian King referred to the challenges facing the two countries with Christodoulides stressing that “Cyprus as an EU member state will continue to promote EU support to Jordan aiming at tackling the huge problems emerging due to large immigration flows.”
