A collaboration between Cyprus and Jordan on tourism was revealed on Monday night by the two countries’ ministers during a social event at London’s City Hall at the end of the first day of the World Travel Market.

Cypriot Minister for Tourism Savvas Perdios and his Jordanian counterpart Nayef al-Fayez spoke of their shared goal to attract more international visitors to the region.

Perdios explained that the common elements of the two countries and the sufficient air connectivity between them allows for offering a holiday package that includes travels from abroad, not least from long-haul destinations, to both Cyprus and Jordan in one go.

As the Cypriot Μinister added, this option has the added value of sustainability, a trend that has been highlighted at the World Travel Market as a pivotal one in today’s travel.

Perdios noted that Cyprus and Jordan have the vision of attracting visitors throughout the year, a statement made by Al-Faye’s as well.

Jordan’s head of tourism policy commented that the two countries need not act as competitors when working together can bring in more tourists for both.

Minister Perdios also referred to Cyprus’s vision of being a digitally clever and environmentally friendly tourism destination, which will spread the economic benefits to all citizens and not just those living by the sea.

In this respect he presented the ‘Heartland of Legends’ project, which, as he said, is a “focal point of Cyprus’s tourism identity”.

The project aims to promote the people and villages of mountainous Cyprus and their way of life. With locals as guides and hosts, the visitor can experience their preferred combination of one of a kind activities, from making halloumi or wine to handling textiles and making pots or other crafts.
