Cyprus and Israel are examining the possibilities for a common pipeline and a liquefaction terminal, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated on Thursday.
Responding to the relevant question after the end of the talks with Cyprus President, Demetris Christofias, Mr. Netanyahu said that several thoughts are on the table, such as the creation of a 40-kilometre pipeline between the deposits of the two countries.
He said that this is something that they look into, but it is a reasonable proposal that is on the table. We are also examining a terminal with the liquefaction of natural gas to Cyprus and a pipeline which will be able to transmit liquefied natural gas to Europe via Cyprus. Another option is to channel this liquefied natural gas through Israel to the Asian markets, Mr. Netanyahu said.
All these are on the table and discussed in terms of investment, efficiency and economic costs.
It is a tremendous opportunity before us and when we had discussed it with President Christofias we had said that we should make some steps. The first step was my visit to Cyprus. For this reason, I am accompanied by the Minister of Energy, he added.
The first step was to limit our EEZ in order to use the natural gas deposits.
