George M Psaras was elected President of Round Table International on 23rd August 2008 during the Annual General Meeting that was held in Pattaya, Thailand. He is the first Cypriot to be elected to this prestigious position in the 30 years of Round Table in Cyprus and in the 81 years of Round Table internationally.

Round Table was first established in Norwich, England on 14th March 1927. Its aims and objectives concentrate on community service and the highest standards of professional ethics. Eighty one years later Round Table International is represented in 72 countries and has a membership of at least 40,000 young professionals. Along with its sister organizations Ladies’ Circle, Agora Club, Tangent Club and 41 Club it is one of the largest federations of service and professional clubs in the world.

George M Psaras joined Round Table 1 Nicosia in November 1991. In 1994 he was elected Chairman of his club and in 1997 he was elected President of the Association of Round Tables of Cyprus as he was again in 2002. He was the first President of Life Education Cyprus, the foundation which works for the education of children against the use of addictive substances using no less than 12 mobile high-tech classrooms. Through the efforts of George and other Presidents of Round Table Cyprus, Life Education has become an integral part of the official educational curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus.

At the European conference of Round Tables held in Lausanne in 2002, George Psaras was awarded the Most Outstanding Member of the Year Award for Europe in recognition of his achievements in setting up the first Round Table in Athens. In 2004, George Psaras and Round Table Cyprus established Round Table 2 and 3 of Athens and immediately after that chartered the Association of Round Tables of Greece with the assistance of Round Table of Great Britain and Ireland. In 2004, in Nepal, he was awarded the Most Outstanding Member of the Year Award internationally in recognition of his achievements in Greece and his vision about Round Table internationally.

George M Psaras is an Actuary by profession and is the Managing Actuary of the regional firm of Actuaries Muhanna & Co located in Nicosia, Cyprus.
