Following a meeting yesterday chaired by the Interior Minister Christodoulos Christodoulou and attended by the Finance Minister, the Mayors of Nicosia and Ayios Dometios and other officials , Mr. Christodoulou stated that the progress of projects on the dividing Green Line was examined and was considered very satisfactory.
The Green Line projects cover the municipalities of Nicosia and Ayios Dometios and have a time frame of five years, starting from the year 2000 with an allocated budget of CYP 27 million. According to Mr. Christodoulou, for the housing projects, up to December 2001 727 applications have been approved at a cost of over CYP 3 million, with additional applications being examined for 2002. Towards infrastructure projects, a total of CYP 14 million has been pinpointed for which so far 15 projects have been approved for the Nicosia Municipality and 14 for Ayios Dometios, equalling a total cost of CYP 10 million.
The overall plan aims to revitalize neglected areas situated near the Green Line of the two municipalities, by providing incentives for refurbishment of houses, the creation of parks and squares and generally encourage the rehabitation of the areas.
