Cyprus President, Tassos Papadopoulos stated on Friday that he favours the supply of electricity to the occupied territories (by EAC), stressing that if the T/C were unable to pay for the electricity, the Republic would give it for free. Mr. Papadopoulos explained, however, that the supply of electricity for free is not allowed and it is, therefore, provided in the form of state aid.
The President expressed his disappointment for the fact that the issue has taken a political aspect. “The T/C need electricity and we can afford it. So why not?” the President said.
Invited to comment on whether the Republic will cease the supply of electricity if the T/C fail to submit the required sum, Mr. Papadopoulos said that we should avoid exaggerations.
