CY President: New challenges for CERA

“The challenges before the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority in view of the transfer of natural gas to Cyprus and the new conditions after the full liberalization of electricity make the task for CERA more difficult and demanding”, President of the Republic, Demetris Christofias stated.

During the ceremony for the credentials of the new Board of Directors, the President noted that “the differentiation of the energy balance and the full liberalization of the electricity market, scheduled fro January 2014, as well as the challenges for the further penetration of the renewable sources of energy in the energy map of Cyprus and the promotion of efficient technologies of production of environmental friendly electricity make the task of CERA more difficult and demanding”, he said.

Addressing to the members of the new Board, he expressed his certainty that CERA will respond fully to the new challenges of the market.

On the other hand, Chairman of the Authority, Giorgos Siammas ensured that they will work hard so as to achieve the most significant targets such as the transfer of natural gas and its use as main fuel for the electro-production and the penetration of the renewable sources of energy in the electricity market.

The new members include Constantinos Iliopoulos (Vice Chairman) and Kypros Kyprianides (member).
