According to Eurostat data released on Thursday, Cyprus has the highest energy dependence rate in EU27 with 102.5%, followed by Malta (100%), Luxemburg (99%) and Ireland (91%).
On the other hand, the lowest energy dependence rates were observed in Poland (20%), the United
Kingdom (20%), the Czech Republic (28%) and Romania (29%). Denmark is a net exporter of energy and therefore has a negative energy dependence rate (-37%).
EU27 energy dependence rate stands at 54.6%.
In the EU27, gross inland energy consumption1 was 1 825 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) in 2006, stable compared with 2005. In Cyprus, energy consumption in 2006 stood at 2.6 million tonnes of oil equivalent.
