Despite its unsuccessful efforts to attract Chinese tourists in Cyprus, the Cyprus Tourism Organization participated in a tourist fair in Beijing recently.
In her statements to StockWatch, CTO spokesman, Antigoni Louca said that for the first time the Organization used the digital presentation of Cyprus as a tourist destination and the comments were exceptionally encouraging. “The tour operators and the journalists expressed their interest for Cyprus and they wanted to know more about the island”, she said.
The CTO representation, headed by Cleopatra Michaelidou, had a meeting with the Cyprus’ Ambassador in China, Petros Ketoras and was briefed on the latest developments with regard to the visas.
“In order to strengthen the tourist arrivals from China – which is expected to be the fourth country in outgoing tourism by 2010 – there is a need for a collective effort”, Mrs. Louca said.
It is worth noting that in 2005 only 400 Chinese tourists visited Cyprus.
