-BOC attracted 50 per cent of the trading volume
The CSE general index went into the slump today, reaching its lowest level within the current month. Specifically, the CSE index – mostly pressured by the banking sector that accumulated significant losses but concentrated more than 60 per cent of the total trading volume – fell 4.6 per cent reaching 105.8 points. Similarly, FTSE20 accounted considerable losses of 4.3 per cent closing at 416.3 points.
The trading volume was again high, totaling CYP 4.9 million. The Bank of Cyprus warrant was the most active stock of the day, attracting 28.1 per cent or CYP 1.38 million of the total trading volume and falling 15.4 per cent or 10 cents to 55 cents. The Bank of Cyprus with 20.8 per cent of the turnover ended 4.8 per cent or 8 cents lower to CYP 1.59, while the Popular Bank being the third most marketable stock of the day (8.7 per cent of the daily volume) closed 2.2 per cent or 3 cents lower at CYP 1.31. The other daily volume leaders were CLR Investments and the Hellenic Bank that absorbed 4.9 per cent and 4.4 per cent of the total volume respectively. CLL sank 9.1 per cent to 12 cents, while HB lost 3.5 per cent reaching 84 cents.
Insurance stocks were among the leading decliners, recording losses of more than 9.8 per cent. Specifically, Minerva with 0.9 per cent of the turnover tumbled 15.2 per cent to 11.2 cents, while Global and Avacom Net of the Computing sector were down 12.7 and 12.3 per cent to 9.6 and 5 cents respectively.
The financial sector was also among the prominent decliners, accounting losses of 6.7 per cent. Laiki Investments with 0.4 per cent of the turnover slumped 12.4 per cent to 17.7 cents, SAFS with 2.4 per cent of the trading volume fell 10.9 per cent to 11.5 cents, Sharelink with 1.9 of the daily turnover reported losses of 10.4 per cent closing at 12.9 cents, while Marketrends with 1.4 per cent of the total volume slid 10 per cent to 5.4 cents.
Finally, Cytrustees, D.H Cyprotels and Toxotis with 1.3, 1.1 and 0.6 of the turnover, closed at 52, 10 and 17.9 cents and –13.3, -13.8 and –12.7 per cent respectively.
Overall, 25 securities went up, 94 fell and 11 remained unchanged.
