The Cyprus Stock Exchange will remain closed on Monday in view of the funeral of former President of the Republic, Tassos Papadopoulos. In an announcement, the CSE noted that its offices will remain closed and no session or settlement/clearing of transactions will take place. Also, the Central Bank announced that it will remain open only until 10.30 in the morning to serve the banking sector the public.

All public services, semi-governmental organizations and schools will remain closed.

The funeral service will be held at 11.00 am at Saint Sophia church in Strovolos and will be officiated by Archbishop Chrysostomos II.

A book of condolences will open at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, which will be signed by the President of the Republic, Demetris Christofias at 10.30 am, the members of the Council of Ministers, the Government Spokesman and the Director of the President’s Office.

Vassos Lyssarides will read the funeral oration, while President Christofias, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, President of the House of Representatives Marios Karoyian, Christodoulos Pashiardis on behalf of the friends of the deceased and Anastasia Papadopoulou on behalf of his family will read valedictory speeches.

The service will be attended by the Greek Prime Minister, Costas Karamanlis, accompanied by the Greek Foreign Minister, Dora Bakoyianni.

PASOK leader, Giorgos Papandreou and LAOS leader, Giorgos Karatzaferis will also attend the funeral.

Tassos Papadopoulos will be buried at the Deftera Cemetary. His family has requested that, instead of wreaths, donations be made to the Red Cross, the Intensive Care Forum and the Patients’ Welfare Council of the Makarios Hospital.

At an extraordinary meeting held on Friday afternoon, the Council of Ministers declared a three-day official mourning. During the official mourning, flags at all public buildings and schools will fly at half mast, while all official events of the government’s members have been postponed.
