Our Corporate Social Responsibility is a fundamental principle which affects business operations and the overall attitude of the organisation towards all social, economic and environmental issues. PwC Cyprus has implemented a Corporate Social Responsibility program, which aims to address various environmental and social issues through active participation and contribution.
The CSR program of PwC is based on five pillars that were determined through an active dialogue with our social partners and are based on the needs of our local society.
Volunteering
PwC organised, for the 11th consecutive year, its annual blood donation for the support of the central blood bank. The blood donation was organised in PwC’s Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos offices with the participation of 100 members of the organisation. It is worth mentioning that for the 4th consecutive year, the Blood Donation was held during the same day as the annual Unicef Christmas bazaar, celebrating in this way the values of giving and volunteering that characterise our organisation.
The value of volunteering is widely acknowledged by the members of the organisation as an integral component of PwC’s Corporate Social Responsibility activity. During the year, staff members took part in various campaigns such as in the cleaning of a beach in Limassol and of a park in Nicosia as part of the "Let's Do it Cyprus" campaign and in raising money for Telethon.
Giving
PwC supports initiatives aimed at promoting social contribution. The organisation supported the Cyprus Anticancer Association through the sponsorship and participation of 5 classic cars in the “48 Hours Cyprus Rally” which was held during 5-7 October 2012.
In addition, PwC Cyprus was the proud sponsor of the corporate race in the Limassol Marathon GSO. A total of 50 companies with more than 1,200 runners took part in the race. The Limassol Marathon GSO which is certified by the international federations AIMS and IAAF, was held for 6th consecutive year on 18 March at the Limassol Molos area with the participation of more than 100 members of PwC.
On the occasion of the Safer Internet day that was celebrated on 7 February, PwC organised an event for the children of the staff which gave them the opportunity to participate in an interesting discussion and receive practical advice for the safe use of the Internet. During the same event, the Cypriot Olympic Sailing athlete Andreas Kariolou, who is sponsored by PwC Cyprus, shared his vision and experiences with staff members and their children.
During the same period, PwC run an on online campaign entitled "Helping the Association for the Welfare of People with Mental Handicap" which aimed at raising money for the association based on the number of new “Likes” on the PwC Facebook page.
During the year, the organisation and its members supported a large number of charitable institutions such as Radiomarathon, Europa Donna, the Center for Preventive Paediatrics, Nicolas Economou Foundation, Cyprus Red Cross, Cans for Kids and many more non-profit organisations.
Environment
In PwC we protect the environment in which we work and live by setting high standards for our operating units in the area of environmental responsibility. Due to the nature of the business, the organisation has a relatively low impact on the environment. However, we have implemented an environmental policy under which environmentally friendly products are used for cleaning purposes while at the same time emphasise on the sensible use of electricity, water and paper. Finally, a paper recycling collection scheme has been implemented and CO2 emissions have been significantly reduced.
Providing Professional Services – Pro-bono
During the Financial Year 2012, 59 staff members were involved in the provision of pro-bono services in support of community organisations and charitable institutions.
Corporate Community Leadership
This pillar is about sharing knowledge and experiences with our stakeholders. Through the issue and distribution of publications, the execution of surveys that raise current issues of concern to all and through the participations of our staff in various business associations, PwC provides access to knowledge and information.
