At today’s meeting, the Council of Ministers approved the contracts with Total, according to Government Spokesman, Stephanos Stephanou.
The contracts have to do with blocks 10 and 11 in the Cypriot EEZ and, as leaked, they will be signed tomorrow morning at the Ministry of Commerce.
The Spokesman said that the signing of the contracts for blocks 10 and 11 and the previous contracts signed with EMI-KOGAS pave the way for research and exploitation of hydrocarbons.
The Council of Ministers also decided to introduce an energy policy council.
Mr. Stephanou said that the council's role will be advisory and will enhance transparency and teamwork issues.
The council will be composed of Commerce Minister as Chairman and one representative from each parliamentary party, the chairman or representative of CERA KRETYK, the Energy Service Director and the director of policy and marine planning as members.
Its participants will also include three academics or three experts.
According to Mr. Stephanou, the energy policy council will hold regular meetings.
