The construction companies are on hold for the eleven projects of €116 million that are in the final stages of ratification. Although the procedures suffer a delay, the contractors hope that the new projects will boost certain companies that face problems this year due to the shrinkage of their development expenditure.

An internal note of the Public Works Department released by StockWatch today refers to the impediments in the big construction projects.

The biggest of them (of €32.4m) concerns the widening of the highway between GSP and Alampra. The contract will be signed by the end of the year, when the appeal of Atlas Pantou against the acceptance of the tender by Cybarco and Iacovou Brothers is cleared up.

The tenders of another big project, the connection of the Limassol port with the Limassol-Paphos highway, are still under evaluation. It is expected to cost €24 million. The tenders were submitted in July 2009.

Meanwhile, the radio-therapeutic Oncology Center in the New Limassol General Hospital was expected to start in 2009. The latest information by the Transport Ministry is that three tenders have already been submitted and will have been evaluated by December.

The works for the buildings of Cyprus’ EU rotation presidency in 2012 (€14.5m) are in progress. The contractors are in feverish preparations since the tenders must be submitted before the end of November.

The tenders for Kellaki – Eptagonia road of €7 million are under evaluation too.

The note of the Road Works Department refers to the upcoming acceptance of the tender for the construction of 5 seawalls for the protection of Kato Pyrgos coast.

The works for Ayios Demetrios – Lemythou road, the access road to Polis Chrysohous station, the noise curtain of Limassol bypass, the expansion of the Haemodialysis Ward of the new Limassol General Hospital and the insulation of the bridge on Limassol – Paphos highway are still pending.
