The refurbishment and expansion of Ayios Antonios Municipal Market will cost more than €1.9 million. The contracts were signed today by Nicosia Mayor, Eleni Mavrou and Managing Director of Lois Builders Ltd, Sotos Lois.
According to the announcement of Nicosia City Council, the signing of the contracts signals the start of the works for the improvement of the building of the Municipal Market on February 24, 2010.
Its cost is expected to reach €1.9 million plus VAT and the project will be executed in three phases so that the market operates properly.
The project intends to give the building a face-lift and to improve the sanitary conditions, as well as to separate the meat and vegetables selling points, to introduce new sanitary rooms and to create parking spaces for the customers.
“All the above will be achieved via the removal of all additions from the existing building, the construction of a new ward and storage spaces, as well as the construction of cargo spaces”, the announcement said.
The first phase of the project will take 8 months and will include the creation of a new ward for fruits and vegetables. The second phase will be of 5 months and will include the improvement of the northern ward.
It is noted that this ward will be destined for meat and fish selling points.
The third phase of 7 months concerns the improvement and refurbishment of the southern ward, which will host various food selling points.
The project will last 20 months.
