The Cypriot government is expected to have behind-the-scenes deliberations with Qatar in the next few days in order to see its intentions, after the letter that it allegedly received from Qatari Diar.

The letter seems to estimate the value of the state land that Cyprus will allocate at €50 million against €135 million that the estimate of Antonis Loizou was on behalf of the Republic and €38 million of Colliers International on behalf of Qatari Diar.

Following the visit of the Cypriot representation to Qatar, the two sides seemed to be close to an agreement that would evaluate the land at €100 million.

The formula was to pay €100 million. Then, a significant capital reduction would be carried out, restricting the net sum of the Qatari investment.

Data were capsized by the letter that the government received by Qatar.

The Government Spokesman admitted that there is a letter indeed, but he denied reports that it has been signed by the Foreign Ministry of Qatar.

“The contacts with Qatar continue and letters are exchanged in this context”, he said.

Mr. Stephanou stressed that the Qatari investment in Cyprus is of strategic importance for President Christofias.

After the visit of the Turkish Prime Minister to Qatar and the rumours that the Turkish side puts pressure on Qatar to abandon the agreement, Mr. Stephanou admitted that Turkey creates problems for several issues on a constant basis.

“We must not end up with conclusions in relation to the investment because the contacts continue, especially now that Turkey creates problems in several sectors and several issues”, he said.

Information talk about a Turkish intervention, but there are no clear indications.

To clarify Qatar’s intentions, the government is expected to have contacts with Qatar in the next few days.
