Consumer Price Index up 2.4% in July

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices rose by 2.4% between July 2022 and July 2023, and by 1.4% in the month between June 2023 and July 2023, the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat) said on Friday.

In a press release on its official website CyStat said that for the period January - July 2023 the HICP rose by 4.6% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Compared to July 2022, the largest changes were noted in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (10,4%) and Transport (-6,5%), it added.

Compared to June 2023, the press release says, the largest change was recorded in category Clothing and Footwear (-11.8%), while for the period January - July 2023, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest changes were noted in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (9.1%), Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (7.8%) and Restaurants and Hotels (6.7%).

It is also noted that in terms of economic origin, the largest changes when compared to the index of July 2022 were recorded in Energy (-14.1%) and Food-Alcoholic Beverages-Tobacco (8.7%), while when compared to the index of the previous month, the largest change was observed in the category of Energy (8.5%).
