The works for the reconstruction of the buildings that will be used during the EU Rotating Presidency in Cyprus will be over in late January 2012.
According to Minister of Communications and Works, Efthimios Flourentzos, works are still in progress at the Conference Center and the ground floor of Filoxenia Hotel.
Speaking before the House Communications Committee, Mr. Flourentzos said that after the delivery of the project, the electrical and electronic installations will be tested.
On the other hand, General Manager of the Ministry, Alecos Michaelides said that the area surrounding the Conference Center will be smartened up, while several infrastructure projects will be made in Nicosia.
Responding to questions, the Minister said that the cost of reconstruction of the Conference Center and Filoxenia as well as the embellishment projects will cost €30 million.
The General Manager of the Ministry said that after the Presidency, the government is having thoughts of giving the refurbished Conference Center and Filixenia Hotel to investors via tenders.
He also stressed that the investor will have the opportunity to change and to proceed with other infrastructures in the area.
“During the Presidency, the EU will review its sea policy, which is effective from 2007, and the developments that were made, which will join the policy. They will be called “Declaration of Limassol”.
On behalf of the Presidency, it has been said that all persons that will work for the needs of the EU Presidency have been selected and they have already attended training programs.
The members of the House Communications Committee expressed their content for the procedures that have been followed.
