The protection of the passengers’ rights, the safety in sea as well as gas emissions in transportation, were the main issues on the agenda of the EU Transport Council which convened in Luxemburg.
Cyprus Minister Tasos Mitsopoulos, in his intervention about the rights of the passengers in case of flight delays, noted that the EU laws need to be reformed so that the passengers are protected, adding that the consultations to this end need to conclude the soonest.
Furthermore he said that possible decrease in the funding of the European Organization for the sea pollution will jeopardize the role of the institution.
Mitsopoulos also underlined the significance of the Organization for island states such as Cyprus, referring to the recent discovery of hydrocarbon reserves in the country’s exclusive economic zone.
In the sidelines of the Council, the Cyprus Minister held a series of meetings with EU Ministers on issues of mutual interest.
