Commerce Min intervenes to end strikes and lock outs

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Giorgos Lillikas, is making the last-minute conciliatory effort to lift the strike and counterstrike measures staged in a number of hotel units in the country. The meeting between the Commerce Minister and the PASYXE Board of Directors has ended at 3pm and the Association is currently on a new meeting to review the Ministry’s proposal on the management of the Welfare Fund of the hotel employees.

StockWatch sources reveal that Cyprus President, Tassos Papadopoulos has already received two alternative proposals from PASYXE and SEK-PEO (Cyprus Workers’ Confederation - Pancyprian Working Confederation).

Meanwhile the strikes and lock outs in the country’s hotel units continue, while the two opposite parties (PASIXE-trade unions) are expected to agree on the alternative proposal set by the Commerce Minister in consultation with the President by 4.30 today.

It is worth mentioning that the Labour Minister has not intervened in this last effort, since his conciliatory role at the current stage has weakened.
