The ongoing change of our climate will have severe consequences for all of us! Therefore Climate Change is the topic of the month of January 2013 at the Goethe-Institut Cyprus.
On Monday 14th January a poster exhibition about environmental issues by the famous German artist Klaus Staeck will be opened in the Goethe-Institut’s hall at 6.30pm, followed at 7.00pm by the screening of the film: “The Age Of Stupid” (UK; 2009; 92 min. Dir: Franny Armstrong), the first of altogether five international documentary films to be shown from 14th till 18th January at 7.00pm in the Goethe-Institut about the environmental challenges mankind faces. On Wednesday 23rd of January at 6.30pm Goethe-Institut Cyprus and The Cyprus Institute will hold a public lecture by the eminent scientist and climate researcher Prof. Dr. Jos Lelieveld, director of Max Planck Institut for Chemistry in Mainz /Germany, and Institute Professor at The Cyprus Institute, about “Climate change in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East “ (in English). The lecture will be followed by a small reception. Admission is free.
On Thursday 24th January at 7.00pm well known film maker Stephen Nugent and the film director and producer Chris Lewis, who were both working for GREENPEACE during the last years to document the organisation’s activities in the arctic against industrial exploitation and environmental destruction, will present their films and inform about further planned activities to protect the arctic, prevent the melting of the pole ice caps and the deterioration of the arctic environment (In English).
All events will take place at the Goethe-Institut in Nicosia, located in the buffer zone next to Ledra Palace Hotel.
