As a Christmas bonus, the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) yesterday announced a reduction of its rates for mobile telephone calls. Users who have opted for the Low Use package will now pay CYP 3.00 instead of CYP 4.00 monthly subscription with calls charged at 8 cents a minute instead of 10 cents, the Average Use package will carry a CYP 5.00 monthly charge instead of CYP 6.00 with calls charged at 5 cents per minute instead of 6 cents and the High Use package will cost CYP 9.00 per month instead of CYP 10.00 with calls charged at 3 cents per minute instead of 4 cents.
Subscribers to the SoEasy system will also benefit from reductions equalling 44% whereby charges per minute will be 10 cents instead of 18 cents. International call charges will also be reduced as of February 2002.
