Can’t cut high food tax, Greece keeps reduced tax for taxi drivers

After saying a Value Added Tax (VAT) on food as high as 24 percent couldn’t be reduced because it was unaffordable, the New Democracy government has given a cut from that rate to 13 percent for taxis.

The Finance Ministry applauded the lower tax for taxis – with some accused of gouging tourists and one charging 350 euros ($373.82) for a short ride before Airbnb stepped in and the driver returned the money with an apology.
