“M.M Makronissos Marina Ltd” recently announced an international call for proposals for cooperation with contractors regarding the construction works of the Ayia Napa marina.

In statement to CNA, mayor of Ayia Napa Yannis Karousos said “the international call for proposals for cooperation with contractors regarding the construction works in Ayia Napa marina includes the construction of marine infrastructure, essential buildings and mooring facilities in the marina”.

“The announcement proves that the company proceeds as planned, the implementation of the project has taken its course and all parties involved are ready to actually realise the most mature work in Cyprus so far”, he added.

Mr. Karousos described the Ayia Napa marina as “the biggest project in Cyprus after the recent financial crisis that hit the island” since, as he explained, “it is expected to play an important role in the restructuring of the economy. This is the most important project not only for Ayia Napa and the free area of Famagusta but also for Cyprus in general”.

During the construction works, “800 jobs and 350 other positions during operation will be created. The early years of the marina are expected to generate hundreds of millions of revenue to the state. The project, apart from the marina, includes villas, apartments and a hotel of five or even six stars”.

Replying to a relevant question, the mayor said that “the municipality has issued all relevant licenses, namely the land take and services, while the building permit will be issued in due time by the municipal administration”. “We expect that the cornerstone will be put by the end of the year while the construction is estimated to last for about three years”.

Yiannis Karoussos occasionally denied reports according to which there are problems with the new investment in Ayia Napa and noted that “the company proves to those who had doubts about the project that it is progressing normally and operations will start as soon as possible”.
