Cabinet approves Ministerial Hydrocarbons Committee

The Cabinet on Thursday approved the establishment of a Ministerial Hydrocarbons Committee that will be responsible to closely monitor the developments in the field of natural gas.

Acting Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos speaking to the press after the Cabinet’s meeting said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will be presiding the Committee. Ministers of Energy, Defense and Communications will also be participating.

Invited to comment on reports about the interim solution for the transfer of natural gas, Acting Spokesman reiterated that the government is looking into all possible prospects for the interim solution with the aim to facilitate the price of electricity for Cyprus households.

Noble Energy operates Block 12 with a 70 percent working interest. Delek Drilling Limited Partnership and Avner Oil Exploration Limited Partnership each own 15 percent. On June 26, Cyprus government, Delek and Avner signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with regard to the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in the Cyprus.

At the same time he said that the ENI - KOGAS consortium who have signed a contract for hydrocarbons exploration in blocks 2, 3 and 9 within Cyprus’ EEZ are planning to drill in the third quarter of 2014, while Total, which has signed a contract for blocks 10 and 11, is also proceeding with drilling at the first quarter of 2015.
