The business world sounded the alarm for the latest developments since 10 days after the tragic event in Mari it is commonly ascertained that the businesses have been disorganized.
In his statements to StockWatch, Deputy General Secretary of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Marios Tsiakkis, said that the companies face many problems after the explosion at Mari and the power outages.
“The events at Mari have made things more difficult. The economic activity has been severely hit. The power outage is the worst thing for the business activity”, he stressed.
Productivity dissolved
“The explosion has disorganized the operation of the companies, many working hours are lost and productivity is dissolved while the impacts on the sector of industry, where many businesses are affected by the production of perishable goods, are exceptionally negative”.
Similarly, OEB General Manager, Michalis Pilikos stressed that the problems are huge.
“The fact that the schedule for the power outages has not been stabilized has created many problems since there is no production ability and many working hours are lost. If this continues, the employees will suffer salary cuts for the hours they don’t work, while the psychology has been affected negatively and the consumption has been reduced”, he added.
The problems for the foreign companies
The Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA) has accepted complaints from foreign companies. According to its Chairman, Fedias Pilides, the Agency has accepted complaints due to the power outages, however, everybody understands the situation.
“The thing is to restore the problem immediately so as not avoid further problems”, the CCCI Deputy General Secretary concluded.
