The issue of bounced cheques in the domestic market remained high in January 2010, showing, however, a partial decline compared to 2009. The bankers believe that the decline is occasional and expect an increase in the next few months, when the conditions of the money market will deteriorate.

According to latest Central Information Registry data, the number of bounced cheques in January fell to 403 from 505 in the corresponding month of 2009 and 418 in December.

On an annual basis, the number of bounced cheques dropped 20.2% while compared to December 2009, the decline is of 3.6%.

As for their value, it stood at €572.7 thousand in January against €1.2 million in January 2009 (-53.2%).

Compared to December 2009, their value decreased by 9.3%.
