The power outages have been stabilized to once a day, after the restoration of the technical failures in Moni and Dekeleia power plants, as well as the power plant in the occupied areas.

According to Deputy Director for Operations and Personnel of the Transfer System Operator, Christos Toufexis, four production units in Moni are on, while power supply from Dekeleia continues normally. It is noted that the Oreites unit also participates in the production.

As for the occupied areas, he stressed that the failure in their power plant has been repaired and the power supply is of 70MW.

“Blackouts will be once a day and their duration will be of two hours and a half. Our biggest deficit is between 11am and 4pm, when demand goes up. We urge consumers to save as much energy as possible”, he said.

With regard to the power generators from Greece, the second load reached Limassol at 6.00 am today. The containers are 13 and the unloading procedure has already started.

According to Commerce Minister, Antonis Paschalides, the generators from Greece will be operating by August 15.

“Right now, we have own production of 680MW and 75MW from the occupied north, that is, a total 755. Our aim is to reduce power outages to once a day, given that air conditions will not be used”.

“Our effort continues with the evaluation of the private companies that are interested in selling either generators or energy. It is a matter of days to make the contracts together with EAC. Demand is expected to drop in August due to the summer holidays and the closing of the industries”, the Minister said.

“At the same time, the Vassiliko Cement Works will close on Friday and will offer its generators so as to boost power supply in the area”, he added.

Help from the occupied areas

Meanwhile, Turkish Energy Minister, Taner Yildiz stated that the power supply from the occupied areas to the free areas will continue so long as there is a demand.

According to Anadolu, speaking to journalists Mr. Yildiz said that they will continue to offer power for humanitarian purposes, especially during summer, when the needs are increased due to the air conditions”.

According to Anadolu, the occupied north offered to the free areas power of 20MW. The agency also reported that the agreement provides for the supply of up to 120MW a day at the price of 0.25 dollars per kWh.
