Cooperation with all relevant stakeholders will contribute to better regulation of public transport and improve the quality of life of citizens, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeades said on Friday, following the first meeting of the newly established Transport Council since the Minister took office.
In his remarks after the meeting, the Minister said that the session was attended by ministerial departments responsible for the issue, as well as representatives of the private and academic sectors, bringing together, as he said, private, academic and technical knowledge with the presence of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ), in an effort to cooperate and exchange views on the better regulation of public transport, which will help to decongest roads, reduce pollution and ultimately improve the quality of life of citizens.
"We look forward to a good and constructive cooperation in exchanging views and experiences and drawing up new strategies aimed at implementing projects that will bring results", Vafeadis noted.
For his part, Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Secretary General Marios Tsiakkis said that the main objectives were discussed, with the chamber expressing its commitment to support this effort with suggestions and expertise, while expressing the view that priority should be given to pressing problems, especially those that plague citizens, in order to have solutions and for citizens to feel the result of this effort, thus making them supporters in the next steps.
In turn, ETEK Vice President Andreas Theodotou noted that the chamber is ready to help the Minister, together with the other institutions, chambers and universities, adding that these meetings will intensify, and expressed hope for real results soon on this important problem.
