According to CYSTAT data released on Tuesday, tourist revenues in August 2008 dropped 9.1% to €278.0 million against €306 million in the corresponding month of 2007. Similarly, tourist arrivals for the same month fell 3.7% to 328,100 against 340.534 in August 2007.
The total spending per capita declined 6% to €847.3 compared to €898.5 last year. The highest spending per capita was observed to the Irish tourists (€1143.7), followed by the Russians (€1067.8) and the Italians (€1027.2). Less money was spent by the Israelis (€475.8).
The average daily spending stood at €74.3 against €78.2 in August 2007, while the average duration of stay was 11.4 days compared to 11.5 days last year.
In January – August 2008, tourist revenues recorded a drop of 3.7% to €1,222.8 million against €1,269.6 million in the corresponding period of 2007. Tourist arrivals for the same period inched up 0.2% to 1,660,506 from 1,657,055 in January – August 2007.
