According to CYSTAT data released on Tuesday, tourist arrivals for August showed an increase of 6.9% compared to the corresponding month of 2002.
Specifically, tourist arrivals in Cyprus reached 322.648 in August against 301.724 in August 2002, while for January-August tourist arrivals have recorded a drop of 6.9% compared to the corresponding period of 2002 (1,533,466 tourists against 1,646,516 in January-August 2002).
The Finance Ministry anticipates that the losses in tourist arrivals will drop to 5% until the end of the year, while the relevant forecast for the tourist revenues stands at -10%. August is the first month since February that tourist arrivals have showed an improvement.
This improvement is mostly attributable to the increase of 12.4% of the British tourist arrivals, which offset the loss of 22% from the German and Swedish markets. It is worth noting that Greek arrivals for August increased by 48%.
