Around 2,500 members of the Police will be mobilised on Election Day, next Sunday, June 9, to ensure that the elections will run smoothly.
As Police Spokesperson Christos Andreou told CNA, on Monday, the Police has drawn up a special action plan regarding next Sunday's elections.
Andreou noted that due to the unique nature of these elections (European and Local Government elections) more police members will be needed than other elections, and perhaps this will be the biggest police operation yet, since there will be more polling centers than in previous elections.
The Police action plan provides for the operation of a Crisis Management Center at Police Headquarters, specifically at the Mobile Immediate Action Unit (MMAD), for the general coordination of the operation as well as operation rooms in all Police Directorates for coordination purposes.
As the Police Spokesperson explained, the whole operation will begin in the early morning of Sunday, June 9, before voting begins and will be completed late at night after the results are announced.
"The Police will be in full force, a large number of police officers, about 2,500 officers maybe more will staff the polling stations but also participate in other police operations during the day, always in cooperation with the Chief Returning Officer and his representatives, so as to ensure the integrity of the elections as provided by the legislation," he stressed.
He also explained that the operation will continue until the completion of the electoral process, including the announcement of the final results.
He pointed out that approximately 2,500 members of the Police will work for the elections alone, in addition to the members of the Police who will do their regular shifts and will staff the various Police departments.
