A 10.1% decrease in total motor vehicle registrations was recorded in February 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to an announcement by the Cyprus Statistical Service.
As reported, total motor vehicle registrations in the second month of the year reached 2,808, compared to 3,123 in February 2021. As for saloon passenger cars, registrations fell by 4.7% to 2,331 from 2,446 in February last year.
As regards main developments in terms of vehicle registrations between January and February 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, it is noted that the total number of registered vehicles decreased by 17.0%, reaching 5,441 compared to 6,554 in the same period in 2021.
Regarding the registration of passenger saloon cars, it is reported that they decreased by 13.5% to 4,478 compared to 5,178 in the same period in 2021, while out of the total passenger saloon cars number, 2,212 or 49.4% were new cars and 2,266 or 50.6% were used cars.
In terms of commercial vehicles, bus registrations decreased to 9 in the January-February 2022 period from 14 in the same period of 2021, while cargo vehicle registrations decreased to 539 in the January-February 2022 period compared to 772 in the same period of 2021, a 30.2% decrease.
It is also specified that light trucks decreased by 29.6% (417 registrations), heavy trucks by 26% (57 registrations) and tractors units (trailers) by 86.5% (7 registrations), while rental vehicles increased by 13.7% (58 registrations).
Finally, information is provided on motorcycle registrations under 50 cc, which decreased by 34.8% (315) in the January-February 2022 period, compared to 483 registrations in the same period in 2021.
