The Parliament criticized the government on Thursday for the problems in the construction of the new energy centre in Vasiliko.
The House Commerce Committee expressed its anger for the lack of communication among the parties.
The anger focuses on:
1. The emerging weakness on behalf of the government to transfer the storage spaces in the area of the former Larnaca Refinery by 2010.
2. The denial of the oil companies to use the plant that the government intends to build in Vasiliko. Already, two companies have taken all necessary measures for the construction of their own terminals.
Chairman of the Committee, Lefteris Christoforou criticized the government for not having a timetable and a plan. “The Commerce Minister and the Energy Manager will be called to give explanations in a month”, he said.
DIKO MP, Angelos Votsis said that a project of millions of euros runs the risk of being ruined due to lack of communication.
Similarly, EDEK MP, Giorgos Varnavas referred to a confusion among the services that are involved and “the cost will be paid by the citizens”.
Ecologists’ MP, Giorgos Perdikis also talked about the repercussions on the environment from the delay not only in Larnaca but in the area of Vasiliko too.
